2010 Enredo - O Mundo
Batucada do Leste proudly presents its 2010 theme and the title of its enredo, 'O Mundo' (the world). Through this theme we acknowledge the profound gift of our natural world — air, water, land, vegetation — and all beings that depend upon it. Through this year's musical arrangements and choreographies we are reminded to care for each other and protect our fragile natural resources.
'O Mundo' is also the figurative 'world' of innovation, creativity, retrieval and resilience. This world exists whenever we strive to remember, understand and embrace the cultural legacy left to us by Africans who survived the middle passage. The study, practice and performance of diaspora arts gives form and meaning to the work of Batucada do Leste. Every carnaval season presents an opportunity to renew our connection and commitment to each other and to those who came before us.
